Burger Lounge - premium burgers in San Diego

Burger Lounge grew out of the idea that a hamburger should not only taste great, but also utilize healthy ingredients produced in a sustainable environment. The Burger Lounge provides a simple, premium quality menu that appeals to the health-conscious diner (vegetarians and salad lovers, that’s you!) to those simply hankering for a great hamburger.

The beef comes from one farm, grown by a small company where the animals are well treated and never spend time in a corporate “feed lot.” Their diet consists of tall green grass from beautiful Kansas prairie land. This is what nature intended cows to eat and nothing more. No hormones, no antibiotics, no grain, no corn—just beautiful green grass. These conditions produce a beef that is delicious and far better for you than conventionally grown beef. Great fries and rings complement.

Several locations in and around San Diego and La Jolla.

Bunker’s Bar & Grill – 9th Hole Burger Break

By: Laura Sabo  I’ve often read local articles where someone chooses the top burgers in town and not once have one of the best – in my opinion – made the list.  I’m talking about the well-hidden, unless you’re a golfer, Bunker’s Bar & Grill, located on the 9th hole of the Red Tail Golf Course in Beaverton, Oregon (Portland proper), behind the much-touted and upscale Stockpot Restaurant.

Open year-round, you can dig into one of the juiciest burgers for a mere $6.25 (add .75 cents for cheese) with all the toppings. Similar to that well-known fast food burger that has two all beef patties (except that it’s one patty), special sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles, onions on a sesame seed  bun, this one’s grilled to order and perfection, and hasn’t been waiting around in a steamy bin for who knows how long. All burgers are served with fries or chips, but they have a “chips only” policy if you are on the turn or, for you novice golfers, playing the next 9 holes.

For the non-burger type and, yes there are some, all beef jumbo hot dogs are offered for $3.25. Golfers can also stop for hot or cold sandwiches or a quick beer between 9’s. Breakfast is served for early-birds and all day. Not a whole lot of options for vegetarians. Best advice: eat before golfing.

Neophyte golfers are more than welcome.  Otherwise, I would have never discovered Bunker’s.

Knowlwood - an Orange County Icon

Since 1957 Knowlwood has been serving up great burgers to the South Coast. Roy and Fay Knowlton, and Gene Wood, started a restaurant called Knowl-Wood at the old Orangewood Ranch in what is now the city of Anaheim Hills in Orange County, California. Years ago, Knowlwood was a favorite stopping point along the old Imperial Highway, a popular orange-grove dotted route used to get through the county. The trademarked “Home of the World’s Best Hamburger” was frequently referred to by locals as simply the “World’s Best.” Now with 5 locations.
